Edithburgh SA

Latest News and Photos Posted

We've set up for a month at the Edithburgh Caravan Park in the Yorke Peninsula. The rates are very cheap with a site on the beachfront $90 a week (offpeak). We've had solar panels fitted to the van in Adelaide by Electric Brake Specialists and also had the brakes and bearings serviced for the first time by the same company. Whilst in Adelaide we also picked up a metal detector that we've been after for a while (Minelab X Terra 705 dual) and will do some fossicking while we travel about. Knowing Di's luck a substantial gold nugget is not too far away.

We did our first bike ride with the child/fat dog carrier on the back - about 14 k's to Coobowie and back. I'd forgotten the joys of a narrow bike saddle and will be able to sit down again in a few weeks I'm sure.

As per the new photos Di and I are giving the fishing a good go and are eating free fish every night.

Sunny Adelaide

Well it's been a while since the last entry...trip to Malaysia and Vietnam - back in Townsville for 5 months to make repairs following Cyclone YASI - re-letting our house etc. In the last month or so we've travelled back to SA, stayed at Victor Harbor and are currently in Adelaide getting van and car maintenence jobs done and visiting family. In two weeks after getting some solar panels fitted to the van we'll be off to Edithburgh again to re-instill fear back into those fish.

Pictures to follow once we are fully organised again

Greetings from Nha Trang

Last Few Days In Vietnam

We are currently in Nha Trang and head to Saigon tonight in an overnight train. Nha Trang is a resort/beach town and the beachfront is a little sus at nighttime and not for the fainthearted. The train travel here is interesting to say the least and on the last night train there were six of us stuffed into a cabin the size of a small bathroom - three bunks each side. The people next door had a puppy kept in a plastic bag (thankfully alive). People here are doing a lot of travel home following their New Year (TET) celebrations and so the trains are also very crowded to the extent that people sleep in the corridors making movement pretty tricky - especially lugging bags. We'll be in Saigon for a few days before heading home via KL. Saigon has the reputation of being one of the busiest asian cities due to the multitude of motorbikes going in every direction including down the footpaths. We're doing a Cyclo tour which again should be interesting as I was hit by a car on the last one (no problems - just a flesh wound!) Di is currently having a massage and a pedicure as I type in preparation for a night on the train!

Hello From Penang

Vietnam Next

I'm writing this from the business centre in the Hotel Royal Penang. We're having a relaxing time apart from some pretty long walks each day. On this trip to Penang we are staying in Georgetown rather that the usual tourist strip at Batu Ferringi and so we've been exploring new places close by. We leave Penang on the 31st and then fly to Hanoi on the 1st of feb to join an Intrepid tour from Hanoi to Ho Chi Min. Di and I are both looking forward to the train travel on the Reunification Express.

When we return to Townsville mid feb we will have loads of photos to post including a few from the trip from Darwin to Townsville.

Hope all our friends in Darwin are doing well and that Kosta and family got home safely following their trip to Queensland at the height of the floods.

Not Long Till We Head Off Again

Last Few Weeks in Darwin

We have just returned from a week in Townsville to visit our lovely Daughters and friends. Bill finishes up with his contract at the end of next week and then after a few days getting the rig packed and ready again we're heading back to Townsville. Mid January we then head off for a month in Vietnam and Malaysia before hitting the road once more.
